Canine Nutrition

Nutrition is an important aspect of pet health, supporting your pet’s growth from weaning through to senior life stages. There are many conditions which can be prevented by feeding a good quality complete and balanced diet. For example, overweight pets are prone to joint, heart, liver diseases as well as diabetes. Toxicities, deficiencies and nutritional imbalances can also occur.

Feeding a high quality premium pet food provides high palatability and a specialised formula targeted to the needs of your pet’s life stage. Also, premium pet food companies also supply prescription diets, for the nutritional support of medical conditions like heart disease, liver disease, dental conditions, kidney disease, food allergies and diabetes. These foods provide your pet with a complete and balanced diet, as well as increasing the quality of life, and help your pet live up to their full genetic potential.

We stock a large range of Royal Canin and Hills Science diet products, in prescription and maintenance ranges, to give your pet the best possible response to their medical conditions. If we do not have a product you are after, we will happily order it in for you.

Your puppy should be fed a complete and balanced diet, formulated for puppies or kittens. Hills Science diet, Eukanuba, and Royal Canin make excellent foods, made from high quality ingredients to provide the nourishment for the high nutritional requirement that young pets need.

When changing any type of food, try to do it gradually, over 7-10 days is ideal. Changing a diet suddenly can cause gastric upset and diarhoea.

Puppies also have a very small stomach, so they will require several small meals throughout the day rather than one large meal. Three to four meals spread throughout the day is ideal.
