Elizabethan Collars for Felines

Elizabethan Collars are known affectionately by several names, such as ‘e-collars’, ‘cones’, ‘lampshades’, ‘buckets’ – just to name a couple. They are a large, cone shaped piece of plastic which are locked around the pet’s head and secured by a collar. They may look very funny, but they serve a very important function. Mostly, they are to prevent biting and licking at sutures, keeping the surgical site clean and dry. However, if a facial surgery is performed, such as eye or muzzle surgeries, an elizabethan collar may be prescribed to stop scratching at the affected areas.
